DODECAHEDRON

The Dodecahedron has been and continues to be the bearer of divine inspiration. It offers a perfect unification of the cube and the sphere, and thus between the finite and the infinite. Plato assigned the Dodecahedron to the element of Ether. It is the contemplation of the universe.

The Dodecahedron is a polyhedron, made of twelve equilateral pentagons around a central point, and has twenty vertices and thirty edges. The Dodecahedron is the most complex solid that can be created in three dimensions from the same equilateral, equiangular polygons. Although defined by Plato over two thousand years ago, the Dodecahedron was put forth, as too, the other four solids, by Ancient Egypt. The Universe as space defined the measure of time.

The dodecahedron has 12 faces, 30 edges and 60 plane angles on the surface. There was indeed revelation of the ancients when it was understood that the cycles of the Solar system are expressed by the same numbers, the 12-year cycle of Jupiter, the 30-year cycle of Saturn and, the 60-year cycle of the Solar system. The  Dodecahedron was put forward as the Universe figure, which symbolized "Harmony of the Universe." Egyptians reasoned that all main systems, the very systems of time did correspond to numerical values of the dodecahedron.

The planetary motion defined time. The completion of a cycle defined the calendar year and as such completed a course of motion, measured as 360 degrees. Twelve Zodiac space/time frames were identified. Taking this full cycle, and portioning among these twelve Zodiac space/time frames further defined the time/space of 30 days. One month corresponded to moving of the Sun on the ecliptic between two adjacent Zodiac signs. The movement of the Sun, by the ecliptic on one grade, corresponded to 24 space/time units, thus one day comprised of 24 hours. By dividing one hour into 60 minutes the Egyptians introduced a minute. By dividing the minute into 60 units the measure of the second was put forth.

The Dodecahedron is space/time, it is the expression of the Harmony of the Universe, the movement beyond the Earth plains, the Ether, the Spirit. Its perfection, its expression offered as the harmonic accord of each of the four elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air.
