HINGED... yes we are...

HINGED... yes we are...

There are so many tools fashioned from the genius of the body's working and moving parts. Leonardo da Vinci knew this and created models of tools and machines based upon the structures created by nature. My Dad had a toolbox that challenged me to imagine what in my own body worked with the very intention of a particular tool. Each part related to the whole of purpose. It was from this early training that I came to honor and appreciate the wonder of my body. Yes, I am ever grateful for those early lessons in "form and function.”

Hinge joints allow the movement of certain parts of the body in one plane. There are hinge joints in the fingers, toes, knees, elbows, and ankles. Although hinge joints are stable, one can still dislocate a bone in them. Injuries and specific health conditions, can have adverse effects on the fluid working of a hinge joint.

Our ‘aches and pains’ call for our attention to form and function. One can learn particular breath focusing practices that act as a ‘lubricant’ for stiff joints.
